Medieval Warbows
Growing in popularity is the shooting of representations of the medieval warbows as used by the English armies during the early and late medieval period.
These war bows are tillered to come round compass (a segment or galleon profile), do not have an arrow pass, no built up handle area, horn nocks that are not ornate and no handle covering. Many archers wishing to shoot one of these bows will have to practice for a long time on lighter bows and gradually increase in weight in order to build their muscle bulk and general ability to shoot in these heavier bows. The style of shooting and techniques involved also differs from the Victorian style.
The warbows on this page come in a variety of weights from 70 pounds to 120 pounds to reflect the heavier weights used by medieval archers and it is assumed that the archer will gradually increase the weight of the bow they would use over time. They have also been tillered to 32 inches minimum to reflect the extended draw length required to shoot in this style.
These bows can be built using modern laminate timbers as per the Victorian type bows in order to keep costs down
